Program description
The governments of Canada and Chile share more than 20 years of collaboration for sustainability within the framework of the Environmental Cooperation Agreement. As a result of this cooperation, the Organic Recycling Program was born, whose purpose is to support Chile in complying with its international commitments to reduce Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions from the waste sector.
Recycle Organics is implemented by the Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change of Canada and the Ministry of the Environment of Chile and it is executed by Arcadis Canada with the support of Arcadis Chile and ImplementaSur. The Program seeks to combat climate change throughout Chile by reducing organic waste disposed of in landfills, by capturing gas in landfills and treating organic matter separately through composting or anaerobic digestion, which results in the conversion of organic waste into clean energy and natural fertilizer.
